Here in Western North Carolina, I have witnessed firsthand how adversity can bring people together. Churches have joined forces to support neighbors living under difficult conditions, demonstrating love and compassion through action. Could it be that God uses such tragedies to teach us to love and serve one another more deeply? Jesus always showed compassion wherever He went. Perhaps God is showing America that it’s time to spread more love and compassion rather than hatred and division.
A cowboy friend of mine once said to me after the events of 9/11, “Adversity builds Character.” Perhaps the tragic fires in California, much like the challenges of the past, will be a starting point for many to turn back to God. It would be just like God to use moments of great difficulty to draw people closer to Him and to one another. In these times of trial, let us remain hopeful, pray for revival, and look forward to the possibility of a brighter, more united future.
